My Friend Gloria

My friend Gloria Page lost her courageous battle against cancer last night. I am one among many, many people who will miss her kindness, her caring, her generosity and her friendship.

I met Gloria at the Best of Missouri hands conference in 1997. We were both fledgling artists at the time and we struck up a friendship. I had the privilege of being Gloria's friendly reader when she wrote her first book "Holy Moly Mackeroly" . You may know of Gloria from reading this book or her book "Art Stamping Workshop" or from her artwork in Somerset Studio magazine.

Gloria invited me to join a newly formed art critique group, that would meet once a month to share our art, our hopes and our dreams. We were artists of all different mediums and we met once a month from 1998 until 2010. Even though I moved away from Missouri, I was still an honorary member and each year when I came back to visit, we would meet and eat, and laugh and sometimes cry, and share our art and delight in each others company and we always took a photo.

Gloria is in white and right behind me in yellow. Although our little group doesn't meet anymore, we will always be fast friends.

Today in my studio I painted this little painting in honor Gloria.
I will miss you my friend.

Dear Janet,
Thank you for sharing your love of Gloria with us (especially HMMer's) We will all miss her "love, her joy, especially her writings, her art". She had a way of writing and making us all feel welcome to be there for that moment in time. Celebrating her life with a drawing is "beautiful". We will all miss her but we will CELEBRATE the time she was with us by continuing with our "arts and love of colors in any shape or form". Hugs Jody, TorC, NM

What a perfect and fitting tribute to your dear friend. One of the best things about art, for me, is the many friends it has allowed me to make and for which I'm very grateful. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I was thinking of Gloria this week and remembering the book swap. it is on my computers as Janet Swap. Gloria was a beautiful artist and her stamps were incredible. She had fought cancer for so long and with such courage. You and she were such kindred spirits and I know your thoughts will often turn to her as you have in your very beautiful tribute, Friends.
Thanks for including me in that swap and enabling me to touch bases with Gloria

What a lovely post, Janet. I didn't know you were close friends with Gloria Page. That must have been so hard for you to hear of her death. I enjoyed her book which we used while I learned how to carve stamps. It was a wonderful book, and I'm sure she was a most loved artist and person.

Hi dear Janet, I just was reading about Gloria, I am so sorry. Cancer is such a nasty thing and I do wish they would find a total and absolute cure for all kinds of it. I know she is looking down on yu and loving the painting you did in her honor. she sounds like she was indeed a wonderful and talented lady. xoxoxo
