Because Art Should be Play and Not Work

We are facing some health challenges at our house, so thank goodness I have art as a way to escape if only for a little while. I am taking a class called "Studying Under the Masters" and the first master up was Matisse. One of our challenges was to set up a still life in the style of Matisse. Here is the one that I set up.(And yes, my studio is red-orange like Matisse). Following is my attempt at painting something realistic and a still life (both of which are just not what I do normally). We were to apply ideas that we had learned from studying Matisse. i took some artistic license (changed a few colors) and I hate the flowers, but I like the rest of it.
Last year I did a little study of Matisse on my own and copied his "Woman in a hat" with oil pastels
and I also made a collage.

My Obsession

For several months now I have been practically glued to the Pandacam at the Washington National Zoo watching the little baby panda Bao Bao. She is now 5 months old and weighs 18 pounds and will be making her debut soon to visitors at the zoo. She is so cute and I have watched take her first steps, start climbing and attempt to eat bamboo. Even sleeping, she is adorable. If you would like to watch Bao Bao on the pandacam click here

Teachers Pet

I made this for my granddaughter Celia. She teaches kindergarten and this is her dog Chewboca. And the one below I made for my granddaughter Audrey. She is in her first year of college and this is her cat Montecore.
They were lots of fun to make.

Galaxy Spread

Some of you may remember this page I made in my intuitive painting journal from 21 Secrets. I called it "A Hitchikers Ride to the Galaxy". Anyway, the journal spread was 3 pages and this was the one on the far left, so I decided to finish the other two.
This is the one on the far right-Sparky looking up at the stars and planets.
The bird in the middle and finally the whole spread...

Starting Over

Holidays in sunny Florida--really have nothing to do with this post-but nice photo, right? After 394 Posts, 5539 comments and 326 followers (how many of you are actually left?) I had to delete everything on my blog and start over. I got a smartphone in early December, which wasn't so smart after all (or maybe it was just the operator-LOL) and being an android phone it sucked all the photos off of my blog into the gallery on my phone. Who knew to turn off "sync"? I have it turned off now. Anyway didn't do much creating after we lost our little Sparky in September, so with the new year, it seemed it was the time to redo the blog and start again. I do hope if you are still out there, you will comment, so I know I'm not alone here.
